Chassis Service Area (CSA)

The CSA refers to the Chassis Service Area.  NIT, PMT, and VIG each have a CSA. The PPCY is served by the Portsmouth Chassis Yard (PCY). These chassis areas provide a central location for chassis to be dropped or picked up by motor carriers at each facility. Chassis inspections and Roadability repairs are done at the CSA. The CSA's and PCY are managed by the Hampton Roads Chassis Pool. Please refer to the notes below for the specifics of each terminal's CSA.

NIT CSA:
  • Location: The NIT CSA is adjacent to the tower, as the driver clears the interchange stay straight through the stop sign.The CSA gate is just to the left of the tower.
  • All chassis being terminated - good order or bad order - should be dropped in the CSA.
  • Drivers can pick up good order (pink tagged) chassis in the CSA.
  • Bad Chassis are yellow tagged.
  • Drivers can have minor repairs performed in the CSA at the Roadability area.
  • All Chassis are inspected at the CSA entrance.
  • Chassis with noted damages at the CSA interchange must be repaired in the CSA area before they can exit the terminal.
PMT CSA:
  • Location: The PMT CSA is located to the immediate right as the drivers clear the PMT interchange.
  • All chassis being terminated - good order or bad order - should be dropped in the CSA.
  • Drivers can pick up good order (pink tagged) chassis in the CSA.
  • Bad Chassis are yellow tagged.
  • Drivers can have minor repairs performed in the CSA at the Roadability area.
  • All chassis are inspected at the Inbound interchange.
  • Chassis with noted damages at the inbound interchange must be repaired in the CSA before they can exit the terminal.
 VIG CSA:
  • Location: The VIG CSA is located in the center of the terminal, as drivers clear the inbound interchange they will take a left onto the main road and take another left after the 408 row.
  • All chassis being terminated - good order or bad order - should be dropped in the CSA.
  • Drivers can pick up good order (pink tagged) chassis in the CSA.
  • Drivers can have minor repairs performed in the CSA at the Roadability area.
  • All Chassis are inspected at the CSA entrance.
  • Chassis with noted damages at the CSA interchange must be repaired in the CSA area before they can exit the terminal.
PPCY PCY:
  • Locatiion: The Portsmouth Chassis Yard (PCY) is located at the corner of Wesley Street and Lee Avenue adjacent to the truck entrance at PMT. 
  • All chassis are inspected at the entrance and exit of the yard.
  • Good order 20’ chassis for pickups or drop offs are located on the left side of the yard just past the interchange.
  • Good order 40’s chassis for pickups or drop offs are located on the right hand side all the way in back of the yard.
  • All bad order chassis being dropped off are in the middle of the yard all the way in the back.
  • All chassis are inspected at the entrance and exit of the yard.
  • Chassis with noted damages must be repaired before exiting the yard.
  • Drivers can have minor repairs performed at the Roadability area which is on the right hand side of the yard across from the good 20’ area.
